Step-by-Step Guide to Installing your Uni-Max ST Bandsaw Lubrication System
If you’re looking to improve your bandsaw’s blade life and ensure clean cuts, look no further than the Uni-Max ST! Unist’s brand-new MQL bandsaw lubrication system is effective, efficient and exceptionally user-friendly. Our guide features photos of our own actual installation on our Ellis 1600, though the system supports other Ellis models.
Step 1: Gather Your Materials
Inside the box, you’ll find the fully-assembled Uni-Max ST, nylon tubing (coiled and straight), a nozzle, and two mounting brackets. In order to properly install the system, you will need a phillips-head screwdriver, a crescent wrench, two zip-ties and a bottle of Unist Coolube 2210.
Step 2: Select Your Mount
You’ll find that your Uni-Max ST comes with two different mounting brackets. The smaller of the pair is compatible with Ellis models 1600, 1800, 2000 and 3000, while the larger mount will fit an Ellis 4000. Select the mount that best suits your saw!
Step 3: Install the Air Coupling
Connect the air coupling to the air intake on the main device. You will want to tighten it using your crescent wrench to ensure the connection is air-tight.
Step 4: Attach the System
The magnetic connector allows for a quick and painless attachment to your bandsaw. Make sure to attach the system somewhere out of the way of moving parts, with the reservoir in an upright position. You’ll need to be sure the air nozzle is accessible as well, so we recommend attaching the system near the base of the saw.
Step 5: Mount the Nozzle
Affix your mounting bracket to the nozzle, tightening it with a screwdriver. Allow enough movement to adjust the height of the nozzle during the next step.
Step 6: Align with your Sawblade
Adjust the nozzle so that the bottom of it is 3/8 of an inch bove the bottom of your sawblade, then secure it using the screws.
Step 7: Connect Nylon Tubing
The nylon tubing will need to be connected in three locations. First, connect one end of the straight tubing to the fluid nozzle beneath the reservoir. Then, connect the other end of the straight tubing directly to the coiled tubing above your saw. Finally, connect the far end of the coiled tubing directly to the nozzle above the blade.
Step 8: Secure Tubing
It is important to keep your tubing free from any moving parts or especially the sawblade. The best way to do this is to affix the tubing to your sawblade using zip-ties in a few locations to keep it secured.
Step 9: Connect Power & Air
Now it’s time to connect power and air to your system. Ellis bandsaws come equipped with 120 to 240 VAC actuation power outlets, which make for a convenient connection. If these outlets are unavailable, any similar-strength outlet will suffice. For air, connect a 80-100 PSI hose to the air nozzle on the machine and ensure the connection is secure.
Step 10: Add Lubricant
Unscrew the lid to the lubricant reservoir on the device and add lubricant! The Uni-Max ST is designed to use Unist Coolube 2210.
Now You're Ready to Cut!
The Uni-Max is unobtrusive, provided it was installed away from the moving parts of the saw, so feel free to leave it attached if you reposition your saw. Enjoy smooth, efficient cuts and increased blade life!
